Just in case you dwell in a fallout shelter and read my newsletter behind a wall of air conditioning… IT’S HOT!!! While I was schvitzing at the market yesterday, my farmer friends reminded me that it’s even hotter where they are growing our produce. Some of this heat is affecting crops and volume. The Garden Of is dealing with crazy heat that has restricted their lettuce availability for the next few weeks. As such we will be limited with our Salanova Mix and Red Little Gem lettuces. Regier Family Farm had anticipated bringing a second truck to the market this week when we spoke last week, but fruit is literally falling from their trees without ripening. Last year we were hit with a late rain that delayed and diminished many crops, this year there is too much heat. As well, Weiser Family Farms is, for the first time ever, out of potatoes for a week or two. Fortunately for you, we get our feet in the door early and have amazing relationships with all of our friends at the market so we’re able to secure just what it is you may need from the Santa Monica Farmers Markets (Save for Mother Nature preventing us).
Grapes and Figs are moving business over at Murray Family Farms and they are delicious! The Valencia Pride Mangoes at Wong Farms are out of this world, and really worth a try. You don’t need to put them in a dish, you just need to eat them hunched over your sink as you hide from anyone who might try to take them from you. Lipstick peppers and baby bells are bringing the color to several different tables. With tomatoes continuing their prolific run of insane flavor and multitudes of different available varieties. The Sungold Tomatoes at Munak Ranch (which we are stocking just for you) are some of the best in the country without a doubt. If you’re not using these anywhere on your menu or in your mouth, then you’re missing out on what makes local produce so special. Do you want some flowers to garnish your dining room? We’ve got you covered. Do you need stone fruit to complete a dessert? Say less. What about Finger Limes to garnish a cocktail? Heard that Chef!
Whatever you’re looking for, we’ve got your back. Happy to answer any questions. Able to parcel items out to you throughout the week (we go on Saturday’s too!) Worldwide Produce has a loving home at the Santa Monica Farmers Market, and we truly enjoy bringing a taste of it to you. Have a great rest of your day!
