Farmers Market Update, 08.01.24

Good day my friends!  It was another beautiful day at the Santa Monica Farmers Market this past Wednesday.  A little overcast which kept the heat at bay.  The weather that our Farmers have been dealing with was a bit less yielding.  Flora Bella is dealing with constant heat and as such will be taking a few Saturdays visits off to allow their land to heal.  The heat has also affected some of the volume for peaches and a few other stone fruits.  We are still bringing in all your pre-order needs and sourcing from the best to make sure you get just what you want. Our stock list is full of the flavors of summer and available throughout the week without pre-order.

What is it that you want exactly?  Well, if you’re anything like my children then you definitely want some of the various types of grapes that either Scott Farms or Murray Family Farms has to offer.  The Candy Heart Grapes I brought home were immediately consumed.  Their hints of floral/muscat flavoring bely their red crisp exterior.  The Valencia Pride Mangoes at Wong Farms hit this week.  They were extremely limited the past two weeks with their other varieties and from famine to feast, the Valencia are here, and they are beautiful and delicious!  Do not miss the opportunity, their season is so short.  I also picked up a few melons from both Weiser Family Farms and Munak Ranch.  After a short time in my car, it was perfumed with an intoxicating smell.  They are so good right now with several varieties to choose from.  Arugula at Schaner Farms is the best of the market with an amazing nutty and peppery flavor.  I had a “Flavor Grenade” from Juicy Fruit Farms.  A firm green pluot with a unique sweetness.  Tomatoes continue to propagate on the market.  From the various cherry varieties that Her Produce brings to the delicious multitudes of heirloom varieties available, it’s all here.  Early Girl Tomatoes at Schaner farms and “Big Beef” tomatoes at Beylik are so vibrantly red, you’d swear they were made in a lab (They are not).  Peppers and purslane, lemon cucumbers and avocados, the dishes just create themselves.  Drop in your own artistic touch and soon you’re an international success!!!
