Tomato Update: Roma’s: The market is perking up. Two Layer and Loose Tomatoes: Mexico is cutting production due to poor returns; prices are up slightly. Cherry Tomatoes: Quality is very good, prices are up. Heirloom Tomatoes: Baja fruit is available; quality is good and prices are high. Specialty Tomatoes: Teardrops are in good supply; prices are lower. Grape Tomato volume is good; prices are low. Clusters: Growers are still long on product; prices are low; orange and red clusters are also available... |
Lettuce Market: Effects of this winters freeze is seriously affecting Iceberg quality and price; expect smaller head size and higher prices. Leaf is also affected but is in better supply than iceberg...

News: Strawberries: Supply is surplus and quality is vastly improved, expect lower prices. Long Stem strawberries are in good supply. Blackberries are cheap; Blueberries and Raspberries are struggling with quality; prices are strong. |
Fresh Fruits: Avocados: Prices are up on both Mexican and California fruit; fruit is a little short causing prices to go up. Citrus: Oranges and Lemons are steady; Limes are cheap; Tangerines are finishing up; Clementine’s (very short), Satsuma, Mercot, and Honey are still available. Grapes: Good quality and supplies of Chilean flames and Thompson’s; prices are down. Kiwi’s: Supplies are light; prices are up. Melons: Cantaloupes and Honeydews sugar content is improving; prices are off; Watermelon quality is poor at best; prices up again; there are some Galia and Golden Honeydews in the market. Mangoes are short; prices are up. Papayas and Pineapples: Supplies are good and prices are steady... |
| Fresh Vegetables: Artichokes: Chokes are beginning to recover from the frost; supplies are improved but prices are unchanged; supplies of small and large loose are improving too. Asparagus: California delta grass has arrived; quality is excellent and prices are unchanged. Beans: Blue Lakes are short; prices are strong. Broccoli & Cauliflower: Quality is good and prices have leveled off. Celery: High prices have cut into demand; supply has caught up and prices have dropped dramatically. Cabbage: No change, quality is excellent. Carrots: Cool weather continues to play in the supply; prices are unchanged. Cucumbers: Short supplies, prices are still high. Eggplant: Supplies of globe, Japanese, and Chinese are short; prices are firm. Onions: Prices remain high on all varieties. Peppers: Green bell peppers remain plentiful and cheap while Red and Gold bell peppers continue to be higher priced. Squash: Zucchini is unchanged; Yellow Squashes are short; Gold Zucchini is sizing small and prices are up...
