LETTUCE MARKET: Boston,
Romaine, Greenleaf, Redleaf: Shippers
are transitioning from Salinas to the desert
in the next week; pricing is unsettled. Iceberg:
Huron is in full swing with Yuma and the California
desert starting up; prices are unchanged.

BERRY NEWS: Strawberries and
Long Stem Strawberries: Quality is
deteriorating with rain in the central coast;
prices are up; New Zealand stems and regular
berries are here; prices are very high. Blackberries:
Quality and availability is good. Blueberries:
Argentina has excellent product; prices are
low. Raspberries: California
fruit still has excellent quality; prices are
unchanged…

TOMATO
UPDATE: Two Layer Repack
Tomatoes and Loose Tomatoes:
Supply is a little bit light; prices are edging
up especially on large fruit: first arrivals of
Florida fruit is set to arrive this week. Cluster
Tomatoes: Prices are up. Cherry
Tomatoes: Quality is very good; prices
are unchanged. Grape Tomatoes:
Prices are reasonable. Roma Tomatoes: Prices
perking up, quality is very good. Heirloom
Tomatoes: Still plenty of product available;
prices are moving up. |
FRESH
FRUITS: Apples:
California fruit is still available and Northern
fruit supply is holding up; prices are down. Cantaloupes:
Desert fruit is all but finished; new crop Mexican
fruit is very high. Honeydews:
Good supplies of large fruit; 8 count is in short
supply; prices remain low. Green
and Red Grapes: California quality
is still good; premium green seedless is the only
way to go, prices are firm. Oranges:
Quality of choice Valencia oranges for juicing is
mediocre at best; Navel oranges for slicing
are here and quality is much improved. Grapefruit:
Texas fruit is here; quality is excellent. Lemons:
Supplies are good; prices are down. Limes:
Mexican domestic pull is causing prices to rise.
Mangoes: Brazilian Tommy Atkins
are still very good; prices are unchanged. Stone
Fruit: No nectarines; new crop
Chilean peaches are here but they are hard, small,
and green; California plums are still available
but quality is weak; Chilean cherries are very nice.
There are good supplies of Apples, Kiwi’s,
Persimmons, Pomegranates, and Pears... |

VEGETABLES: Artichokes:
Supplies are still short; prices are
very high. Asparagus: Prices
are up as we transition into Mexican grass; grass
is sizing smaller than usual. Bok Choy
and Napa Cabbage: No
changes to report. Blue Lake Beans:
Prices are heading up as we head into Thanksgiving.
Broccoli: Supply is good; prices
are down. Cauliflower: Prices
have leveled off. Cabbage: No
change in prices. Carrots: Supplies
are better; prices are down. Celery:
Pricing is up in due to holiday demand. Cucumbers:
Supply is light; prices are up. Eggplant:
Quality is good; prices are low. Green
Onions: Supplies are good; prices are
off. Red Onions: Quality is excellent;
prices are unchanged. Yellow Onions:
The market is unchanged; quality is good. White
Onions: No changes to report. Potatoes:
New crop is here; prices are low and quality is
excellent. Kale, Curly Parsley
and Italian Parsley: Supplies
are good; prices are up on curly parsley. Green,
Red, and Gold Bell Peppers:
Green bells are cheap; red,
orange, and gold peppers are still very high.
Green Zucchini: Prices are coming
down as Mexican fields dry out. Yellow
Squash: Crookneck quality is good; prices
are low. Gold Zucchini: New crop
Mexican gold bar is improving in numbers; prices
are down; straightneck is still cheaper.
Hard Squash: Winter varieties of hard
squash are now available including turban, delicata
and gold nugget. Baby Squashes: Supply
is good and prices are low but with the holiday
on the horizon prices will be moving up. French
and Yellow Wax Beans: Supplies
are adequate but as with the baby squashes holiday
demand will push price higher. There are good
supplies of Chard, Leeks, and
Snap Peas...
