LETTUCE MARKET:
Boston, Romaine, Greenleaf,
Redleaf and Iceberg:
Prices have leveled off on almost everything;
iceberg remains short; prices are firm; romaine
hearts are still short and prices are still
higher than normal. Spinach:
Cello spinach supplies are much better; bunch
spinach is a little high…

BERRY
NEWS: Strawberries and
Long Stem Strawberries: Not much change;
so far weather is cooperating and quality is
very good. Blueberries: The
local season is winding down; growers are offering
mostly the 6 oz. baskets now instead of the
larger pint size. Raspberries:
Supply is good; prices are the same. Blackberries:
Quality remains very good and prices are slightly
higher than usual…

TOMATO
UPDATE: Two Layer Repack
Tomatoes and Loose Tomatoes:
Prices are on the upswing; fruit is very short and
color is a problem. Cluster Tomatoes:
Supplies are light; prices are up. Cherry
Tomatoes: Supplies and prices are unchanged.
Grape Tomatoes: Prices remain low;
quality is good, only clamshells now, no bulk 20
lb. are available. Roma Tomatoes: Demand
far exceeds supply; prices are up. Teardrops:
Supplies are good and prices low. Heirloom
Tomatoes: The season has finally arrived;
quality is very good. |

FRESH
FRUITS: California Haas
Avocados: Prices are high on all apples
as growers finish up the last of the controlled
atmosphere fruit. California Haas Avocados:
Supplies remain short; prices are up
again. Cantaloupes and Honeydews:
Ad commitments have growers scrambling to cover
orders; prices are up; 8 size dews are nearly
impossible to find now. Mixed
Melons: Good supplies of Orange
Dews, Canary, Casaba, Crenshaw, Persian, Santa
Claus, and Sharlyn; sizes are mostly 4 and 5 count.
Green and Red
Grapes: California has finished
the harvest on reds;
look for higher prices soon. Oranges:
Prices are leveling off. Grapefruit
and Lemons: No changes to report.
Limes: Prices are down. Apricots,
Nectarines, Plums and Peaches:
Quality of summer tree fruit is still very good;
nectarines are tight; apricots are finished for
the season; there is a good selection of pluots
including dapple dandy, green gage, and elephant
heart. Cherries: Washington growers
are finished; small supplies of Canadian Bings
are coming in but quality is poor; Raniers are
done. There are good supplies of Kiwi’s,
Gold Kiwi’s, and Mangoes

FRESH
VEGETABLES: Artichokes:
Supplies of all chokes are short; prices
are up. Asparagus: Quality is
good; supply is short; prices are up. Bok
Choy and Napa Cabbage:
Napa and Bok Choy supplies are short; prices are
up. Blue Lake Beans: Fresno,
Orange County, and Baja are shipping; supplies
are surplus; prices are low. Broccoli:
Prices are coming down; product is more readily
available. Cauliflower: Prices
are down here too. Cabbage: Green
is up a notch, no change in red. Carrots:
Growers are having a tough time filling orders;
jumbos are sizing small and baby peeled carrots
are sizing larger than normal; demand far exceeds
supply and prices are on all carrots. Celery:
The market is turning around; prices are softer.
Cucumbers: Prices are still very
high; supplies are light. Eggplant:
Supply is long and prices are low. Red
Onions: Quality is excellent; prices
are unchanged. Yellow Onions:
Supplies are better and prices are off. White
Onions: No changes to report. Potatoes:
New crop has arrived for some
growers; prices are coming off. Kale,
Curly Parsley and Italian
Parsley: No change on kale but
all parsley is up. Green, Red,
and Gold Bell Peppers: Green
bells are cheap; red and yellow bells are much
lower too. Green Zucchini: Supply
has loosened up and prices are falling. Gold
Zucchini: Quality is excellent; prices
are low. Baby Squashes and French
Beans: Supplies are much improved; prices
are leveling off. There are good supplies of Chard,
Leeks, and English Peas...
