LETTUCE MARKET:
Boston, Romaine, Greenleaf,
Redleaf and Iceberg:
Quality will continue to be the issue as product
recovers from the heat wave; we have hopefully
seen prices peak and should see some relief
soon. Spinach: Cello spinach
continues to be short; since there are fewer
packers of stemless, it will be even shorter
than the regular cello spinach…

BERRY NEWS: Strawberries and
Long Stem Strawberries: Prices will
be moving up on the better quality fruit. Blackberries
and Blueberries: Supply is
better and prices have stabilized. Raspberries:
They are in very short supply; prices are firming
up…

TOMATO
UPDATE: Two Layer Repack
Tomatoes and Loose Tomatoes:
Prices are perking up slightly; full color on smaller
sized fruit is a little bit short. Cluster
Tomatoes: Supplies are still long; prices
are low. Cherry Tomatoes: Supplies
and prices are unchanged. Grape Tomatoes:
Prices remain low; quality is good. Roma
Tomatoes: Prices are up. Teardrops:
Supplies are good and prices low. Heirloom
Tomatoes: Supplies are much better; prices
are coming down to reasonable levels… |

FRESH
FRUITS: California Haas
Avocados: Prices are up on all apples
as growers finish up the last of the controlled
atmosphere fruit. California Haas Avocados:
Supplies are short and prices are rising. Cantaloupes:
Supplies are light and prices are up. Honeydews:
Prices are stable; small fruit continues to be
short. Mixed Melons: Good supplies
of Orange Dews, Canary, Casaba, Crenshaw, Persian,
Santa Claus, and Sharlyn; prices are low. Green
and Red Grapes: California fruit
is excellent; prices are low. Oranges:
Prices continue to rise; prices on all oranges
and on orange juice as well are rising steadily.
Grapefruit and Lemons:
Prices are unchanged. Limes:
Mexican growers are short on fruit; prices are
up. Apricots, Nectarines, Plums
and Peaches: Flavor of summer
tree fruit is at its peak; nectarine supplies
are temporarily short; prices are up slightly;
there is a good selection of pluots including
dapple dandy, green gage, and elephant heart (late
in the week). Cherries: Bing
cherries from Washington are very good; prices
are low; Washington Raniers are only so-so in
quality. There are good supplies of Kiwi’s,
Gold Kiwi’s, and Mangoes

VEGETABLES: Artichokes:
Supplies are a little better; prices
are firm. Asparagus: Quality
is excellent; prices are up on all sizes. Bok
Choy and Napa Cabbage:
Napa and Bok Choy supplies are short; prices are
heading back up. Blue Lake Beans:
No change in prices; quality is beginning to recover
from the heat. Broccoli: Growers
are losing product to heat damage; we are expecting
higher quotes on good crowns. Cauliflower:
Surprisingly, prices are still low. Cabbage:
Supply is good, no change in price. Celery:
The market has turned around; prices are edging
up. Cucumbers: Prices are steady.
Eggplant: Supplies are much better;
prices have flattened out. Red Onions:
Quality is much improved. Yellow Onions:
Supplies are light and prices are up.
White Onions: No changes to report.
Potatoes: The market has settled
out; prices are still high; kennebec supply is
better but we are still having spot shortages.
Kale, Curly Parsley and Italian
Parsley: No change; prices are low. Green,
Red, and Gold Bell Peppers: Green
bells are cheap; red prices and gold are coming
down. Green
Zucchini: Warm weather is usually good
for squash but it has been too hot and growers
are losing fields; prices are up. Yellow
Straightneck: Supply is tight and prices
are up. Gold Zucchini: Supply
is good; prices are low. Sugar Snaps:
Hot weather has taken its toll; quality is still
in the recovery mode. Baby Squashes
and French Beans: Supplies are
short; heat damage is driving prices back up.
There are good supplies of Chard, Leeks,
and English Peas...
