Tomato Report: Delays in the Florida growing season have now begun to show repercussions for the West Coast; price hikes in most all Round Tomatoes are to be expected. While supplies continue to come out of Mexico, expect tight inventory because of supply related problems. We still have product on hand. Cherry tomatoes are in short supply, lighter in color and higher priced. Grape tomatoes are coming out of Mexico. They are in short supply and higher priced. Yellow and Red Teardrop tomatoes have better quality; however, they are still very high priced. Roma tomatoes have good quality but a lighter color profile. This is because of uneven ripening. Supply has become short and the price has risen drastically. We still have good inventory.

Lettuce Report: Romaine Lettuce has now transitioned to Salinas, California. Overall quality has improved and yields are expected to go higher as the Salinas season progresses. Expect much better pricing and fewer quality issues. Iceberg Lettuce is in good supply out of Huron and Salinas. Quality is good and prices are steady. Some of the quality issues that hit Iceberg this winter should now be all but gone as the product has moved fields and growing regions. Leaf lettuce supplies are coming out of Yuma and Salinas. Supplies are good and prices are reasonable. Expect all supplies to come out of Salinas by Mid-April.

Berry News: Strawberries are coming out of California. Crops are being picked out of Oxnard and Watsonville. Warmer weather has led to better quality berries. Prices are holding steady and quality remains good. Blueberries are coming out California. Quality and supply remain good. Prices have gone up. Blackberries are coming out of Mexico. Quality and supplies are good and the price has started to come down. Raspberries are coming from California. While Raspberry quality remains good, demand has exceeded supply and inventory levels are sometimes difficult to maintain. Prices have moved a lot higher.

Fruit Report: Lemons are available out of California and prices are slightly increasing. This may be due to increased fuel prices as the crop moved to Northern California. We continue to have good inventory. All varieties of Navel oranges have good availability out of California.113ct. Valencia's out of Texas have higher sugar content than Californian product but they are also more expensive. Expect good availability on small to mid-size fruit but limited supplies on the larger size profile. Grapefruit is out of California and Texas. The profile is that of a Ruby Red variety. Quality is good but prices are higher. Limes are coming out of both California and Mexico. Mexican Limes have much better quality. Prices have come down considerably on the 200 and 230 count. (See This Week's Hot Sheet) Avocados: We carry both Mexican and Californian Avocados. Mexican and Californian Avocados enjoy high quality. Oil content and ripeness may be slightly better on the Mexican variety; however, both Avocado varieties are about the same quality and price. Honeydew is improving. Cantaloupe is better choice with higher sugar content. Green Grapes have great quality and price. (See This Week's Hot Sheet)Onions have good availability. Prices are very good. Medium Red Onions have great quality and price. (See This Week's Hot Sheet)

Vegetable Report: Asparagus: Quality is good but prices have started to rise. Supplies are coming from California and Mexico. Blue Lake Bean price has started to come down. Supplies are coming from Florida and Mexico. Bell Pepper supplies are ok; size is slightly smaller. Red and Yellow peppers are more expensive. Green Peppers are the best choice. Squash: Squash prices have gone down considerably and quality remains good. (See This Week's Hot Sheet) Cauliflower: Expect tight supplies and higher prices. Broccoli has good quality and price. Eggplant remains Very short and prices are extremely high! If at all possible, it is best to stay away from Eggplant .Potatoes: Large size profile Potatoes are short in supply. Freezing conditions have led to a decline in storage crop. Red and Yukon have gone up as well. Supply is short. It is best to stick with smaller profile. Prices are very high.
