BERRY NEWS: Strawberries: Quality
is very good; prices are firm through Valentines
Day. Long Stem Strawberries:
Supply should be okay for Valentines Day; prices
are unchanged. Raspberries:
Supply is very short; prices are firm. Blueberries
and Blackberries:
Supplies are good; prices are lower…

TOMATO
UPDATE: Two Layer Repack
Tomatoes and Loose Tomatoes:
Prices have stalled; rumor has it that they may
be going back up. Cherry Tomatoes: Prices
are low. Roma Tomatoes: Supply
is good; prices are about the same. Yellow
Tomatoes: Supplies are a little better;
prices are unchanged. Grape Tomatoes:
Good deals on conventional grapes but the organic
Del Cabo sugar plum grapes are still demanding premium
prices. Teardrops: Supplies are
still short; prices remain high. Heirloom
Tomatoes: Mixed heirlooms are still available;
quality is good and prices remain unchanged… |
FRESH FRUITS: Apricots:
Supplies are short as the season dwindles down;
mostly Chilean single layer fruit is available at
premium prices. California Haas Avocados:
Prices are perking up; quality is very good. Cherries:
This one finished with no fanfare; the season is
over until California starts in spring. Cantaloupes:
Supply remains super short; prices are up again.
Honeydews: Supplies are light;
quality is mediocre; prices remain high. Watermelon:
Quality is still not very good; prices are high.
Mixed Melons: Orange Flesh Honeydew
and Crenshaw melons are available. Green
and Red Grapes: Chilean flames
and Thompson seedless are excellent: prices are
good. Oranges: Texas Valencia’s
are still the best for juicing; California navels
are excellent for garnish; Blood Oranges:
Supplies are tightening up; the season should end
early this year. Grapefruit: Texas
Rio stars are very good. Limes:
Mexican limes are short; prices are high. Hawaiian
Papayas: Supplies are good; prices are
unchanged. Nectarines and Peaches:
Chilean stone fruit quality is good and prices are
unchanged; white flesh peaches are available; quality
is excellent. Plums: Both red and
black are in the market. There are good supplies
of Apples, Gold Kiwi’s, Mangoes, Pomegranates,
and Pears . . . |

FRESH
VEGETABLES: Artichokes:
Castroville chokes still have frost damage; supply
is better; prices are unchanged. Asparagus:
Prices have firmed up. Bok Choy
and Napa Cabbage: Supplies are
light; prices are up slightly. Blue Lake
Beans: Supplies are good; prices are
the same. Broccoli: Supplies
are better; prices have fallen and look to stay
there. Cauliflower: Prices are
down but trying to rebound. Cabbage: Green
and red are both down. Celery:
Prices are down but are beginning to firm up.
Cucumbers: Supplies are better. Eggplant:
No change in quality; prices are low. Red
Onions: No change in prices. Yellow
Onions: No changes to report. White
Onions: Prices are unchanged. Kale,
Curly Parsley, and Italian Parsley:
Supplies are
good; prices are unchanged. Green Bell
Peppers: Green bells are your best buy:
prices are reasonable. Red and
Gold Bell Peppers: Supplies are
very short and quality not as nice; prices are
strong. Squash: Gold
Zucchini: Nothing of shippable quality
is available; we are substituting straightneck.
Yellow Straightneck: Prices are
firm; supplies remain short. Green Zucchini:
Prices have leveled off. French Haricot
Vert Beans: Prices remain high. Yellow
Wax Beans: Prices are still strong this
week. Baby Squashes: Very short
and expensive on all varieties. There are good
supplies of Chard, Carrots, China Peas,
Hard Squashes, Sweet Potatoes and Yams...
